Ancient Jomon Pottery

  • The pottery vessel over 10,000 years old was discovered in Lake Biwa, Japan.
  • The artefact was found 64 metres underwater at the Tsuzuraozaki ruins.
  • The vessel belongs to the early Jomon period and is 25 centimetres tall.
  • It shows delicate engravings, reflecting early ceramic craftsmanship.
  • Lake Biwa is Japan’s largest freshwater lake and a key site for prehistoric research.
