Bhupen Hazarika Birth Centenary

The 100th birth anniversary of Bhupen Hazarika was commemorated on 8 September.
Bhupen Hazarika was born on 8 September 1926 at Sadiya, Assam, and was a singer, composer, lyricist, filmmaker and cultural icon.
He studied at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and earned a doctorate from Columbia University, USA, in 1952.
His famous works include Bistirno Parore, Moi Eti Jajabor, Manuhe Manuhor Babé and Buku Hom Hom Kore.
He was posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan (2012) and Bharat Ratna (2019), India’s highest civilian award.
He died on 5 November 2011 in Mumbai.
