- IASST, an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), demonstrated the first use of borophene as a high-performance lubricant additive.
- Borophene is a two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterial made entirely of boron atoms with high mechanical strength and electrical conductivity.
- Adding 0.1 weight percent borophene to castor oil reduced friction by about 42% compared to pure castor oil.
- The technology improves machine efficiency, reduces energy loss and wear, and supports sustainable green lubrication applications.
