  • Tamil Nadu created the Tamil Nadu Green Climate Company to coordinate climate missions.
  • It operates four programmes covering climate change, green cover, wetlands, and coastal restoration.
  • The State released a Greenhouse Gas Inventory showing a 7% share of India’s emissions in 2019.
  • It also reduced its emission intensity to GDP by nearly 60% between 2005 and 2019.
  • Renewable energy makes up about 60% of Tamil Nadu’s installed power capacity.
  • It contributes nearly 30% of the State’s total electricity generation.
  • It now has 20 Ramsar-designated wetlands and has protected 30% of its total land area.
  • The State is integrating climate governance across all 38 districts.
