Container Production Scheme

The government has proposed a ₹10,000 crore Container Manufacturing Assistance Scheme (CMAS) to increase domestic container production and reduce import dependence.
The scheme will run for five years and aims to raise India’s annual container production capacity to about 7.5 lakh Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs).
It will support new factories, expansion of existing units, testing infrastructure, skill development and capacity building.
India currently imports nearly 2 million empty containers annually for domestic needs and repositioning.
The scheme is expected to create about 3,000 direct and 50,000 indirect jobs in container manufacturing and related industries.
