- RBI has issued new guidelines to set up Currency chests.
- The central bank has stipulated that the currency chests should have CBL (Chest Balance Limit) of Rs 1,000 crore, subject to reasonable restrictions.
- The new chests should have a processing capacity of 2.1 lakh pieces of banknotes per day in hilly, inaccessible areas and 6.6 lakhs pieces of note in all other areas.
- Currency chests are branches of selected banks authorised by the RBI to stock rupee notes and coins and to distribute them.
