The sanctuary is located at Domkhar village in Leh of Kashmir, next to the banks of Indus River. It has 500-odd petroglyphs.
It has numerous rocks carved figures, thought to date back between 2000 and 4000 years.
This was established in 2012 by the efforts of Stanzin Thangjuk, a farmer who has been instrumental in single-handedly protecting these pre-historic rock carvings.
Petroglyphs are images created by removing part of a rock surface by incising, picking, carving, or abrading, as a form of rock art.
Recently it was in news due to its damaged conditions.
