- The Tamil Nadu Government has extended the tenure of the Seventh State Finance Commission by four months, from 31 August 2026 to 31 December 2026.
- The Commission was constituted in May 2025 under the chairmanship of K. Allaudin (Retired IAS officer).
- It reviews the financial position of Village Panchayats, Panchayat Union Councils, District Panchayats, Town Panchayats, Municipalities, and Municipal Corporations.
- The Commission recommends the distribution of State government funds to local bodies.
- It will submit its report by 31 December 2026, covering the five years starting from 1 April 2027.
