FAME- India scheme gets another six-month extension

- The Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME)-India scheme is set to receive an extension of six month. The scheme was under the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.
- The Phase 1 of the scheme was effective from April 2015, to March 2017, but had received six-month extension till end-September 2017. Now it has been extended by another six months up to March 31, 2018.
- The FAME-India scheme is proposed to be implemented over a period of 6 years, till 2020, wherein it is intended to support the hybrid/electric vehicles market development and its manufacturing eco-system to achieve self-sustenance at the end of the stipulated period.
- The scheme has four focus areas, technology development, demand creation, pilot projects and charging infrastructure.
