FCRA Bill Under JPC Review

The Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026 was referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) by the Lok Sabha on August 12, 2026.
A JPC includes members from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and examines a specific Bill or issue in detail.
It can call witnesses, examine documents and suggest changes, but its recommendations are not binding on the government.
Parliamentary committees help examine complex legislation through detailed scrutiny and stakeholder consultation.
About 60% of Bills were referred to committees in the 14th Lok Sabha (2004–09), but this fell to about 16% in the 17th Lok Sabha (2019–24).
