- The Food Corporation of India was set up on 14 January 1965, having its first district office at Thanjavur, and headquarters at Chennai.
- Now, it is one of the largest supply chain management companies in Asia.
- In 2022-23, the agency bought 76.56 million tonnes of paddy and 26.2 million tonnes of wheat.
