  • The Scientists discovered a 1 cm long fossil in the Gobi Desert, revealing early mammalian evolution.
  • The fossil belongs to a micro-mammal from the Late Cretaceous period, about 100 to 66 million years ago.
  • It was found in the Ukhaa Tolgod region with a nearly complete skeleton, which is very rare.
  • The specimen coexisted with dinosaurs like Velociraptor.
  • Its preservation is due to protracted aridification, a long-term drying process with rapid burial by sand.
