- The United Nations Security Council has designated Pakistan’s Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) chief Masood Azhar as a Global Terrorist.
- The decision was taken by the 1267 Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee of UNSC.
- Azhar and his organisation will face assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo.
- China has blocked the earlier 4 attempts to blacklist Masood Azhar.
- The Sanctions List currently contains the names of 262 individuals and 83 entities.
- The 1267 Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee aims to impose strictures against individuals and entities associated with Al-Qaida and the Islamic State.
