- NITI Aayog has released the second edition of “Healthy States, Progressive India” report.
- It analysed 21 large states based for the period between 2015-16 (base year) and 2017-18 (reference year).
- The ranking was done under three categories (larger states, smaller states and Union territories) and 10 parameters.
- It states that Kerala remains the healthiest State in India and Uttar Pradesh remains the unhealthiest.
- Tamilnadu is ranked at 9th.
- Neo-natal mortality rate (NMR) in Kerala was found to be as low as 6 per 100 live births. It was 32 in Odisha.
- Among smaller states Mizoram was ranked first followed by Manipur on overall performance.
- Among Union Territories Chandigarh and Dadra and Nagar Haveli were ranked on top in terms of overall performance.
