Kunming-Montreal Framework Update

July 30 , 2026 17 hrs 0 min 53 0
  • The draft global assessment of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) shows that the world is not on track to achieve its biodiversity targets by 2030.
  • The KMGBF, adopted in 2022, has 23 targets for biodiversity conservation, but progress on most targets remains slow.
  • Only Target 8 on reducing climate change impacts on biodiversity is progressing, but not at the required speed.
  • The assessment is based on 129 national reports, 89 National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs), and other global submissions.
  • The findings will be discussed at SBSTTA-28 and SBI-7 meetings in Nairobi, Kenya, and will support the COP17 Global Review.
