- Lachit Borphukan was a commander of the Ahom Kingdom and led the army in the Battle of Saraighat (1671).
- In this battle, the Ahom forces defeated the Mughal army led by Ram Singh on the banks of the Brahmaputra River.
- The Lachit Borphukan Gold Medal has been awarded by the National Defence Academy (NDA) since 1999 to the best passing-out cadet.
