- The BJP MP from Kota of Rajasthan Om Birla has been unanimously elected as the Speaker of 17th Lok Sabha.
- The Constitution does not specify any qualifications for being elected the Speaker.
- It only requires that the Speaker should be a member of the House.
- The Speaker and the Deputy Speaker are elected from among its members by a simple majority of members present and voting in the House.
