- The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) ordered the removal of beverages falsely labelled as Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS).
- ORS is a medically approved drink with a precise mix of glucose and salts to treat dehydration caused by diarrhoea or excessive sweating.
- Only WHO-approved ORS formulations with correct glucose and salt balance can use the “ORS” label.
- Mislabelled drinks, including fruit juices and energy drinks, may worsen dehydration, especially in children.
