- 10th April is celebrated as ‘Survey Day’ throughout India.
- This day has a special significance in the History of Surveying as it is on this day (April 10, 1802) that Major William Lambton started two important works.
- The GTS (Great Trigonometrical Survey)
- Measurement of Great Arc from the Cape Comorin to Bangalore.
- The Great Trigonometrical Survey was a project which aimed to measure the entire Indian subcontinent with scientific precision.
- The baseline for the Survey was Madras.
