- The National Statistics Office (NSO) will conduct a nationwide Migration Survey from July 2026 to June 2027.
- The survey will be conducted by NSO under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).
- The survey will collect data on rural–urban, inter-state, seasonal, and return migration, and reasons for migration.
- It will also cover the employment profile of migrants to support planning in housing, jobs, transport, and social security.
- Earlier migration data were collected through the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) 2020–21 and Multiple Indicator Survey 2020–21.
