New Ant Species in Western Ghats

- Scientists have identified a new species of ant from the Western Ghats region in Kodagu district of Karnataka called Tapinoma onaele.
- The word Onaele in Kannada means dried leaves, which are a very important part of the forest floor in the Western Ghats.
- Recently Probolomyrmex procne was rediscovered after three decades in this region.
- This species has only been documented in two other locations in India.
