- India approved the manufacture and use of anhydrous ammonia as a fertiliser for three years.
- Anhydrous ammonia contains 82% nitrogen, making it one of the most concentrated nitrogen fertilisers, while urea contains about 46% nitrogen.
- It is stored under pressure and injected below the soil surface using specialised equipment, as it can cause burns and inhalation hazards.
- India produces about 30 million tonnes of urea every year but imports nearly 10 million tonnes to meet domestic demand.
- Under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, the Government plans to procure 7.24 lakh metric tonnes of Green Ammonia annually to produce Green Urea.
