Tamil Nadu recorded its highest-ever monthly deceased organ donations with 33 donors in January 2026.
Government Dharmapuri Medical College Hospital recorded the highest number of donors (5) and functions as a Non-Transplant Organ Retrieval Centre (NTORC).
Government Rajaji Hospital of Madurai recorded 4 donors, while Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital in Chennai and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Chennai recorded 2 donors each.
Other hospitals in Coimbatore, Salem, Dindigul, Tirunelveli, Ramanathapuram, and Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital recorded one donor each.
In 2025, Tamil Nadu recorded 266 brain-dead organ donors, and 42 donations were recorded in the first 43 days of 2026.
The deceased donor organ transplantation programme is coordinated by the Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu, and Government Order (GO) 331 issued in 2023 honours brain-dead donors with State respect.
