- India released an updated seismic zonation map under the Earthquake Design Code 2025, designed by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
- The entire Himalayan arc from Jammu and Kashmir–Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh is now placed in the new highest-risk Zone VI.
- About 61% of India is now classified under moderate to high earthquake-hazard zones.
- Boundary towns are automatically placed in the higher-risk zone if located between two zones.
- The map uses Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Assessment (PSHA) and includes updated soil and ground-response guidelines.
