Small Hydro Power Development Scheme

The Union Cabinet approved the Small Hydro Power (SHP) Development Scheme with an outlay of ₹2,584.60 crore for FY 2026–27 to 2030–31.
The scheme aims to develop about 1,500 MW of small hydro capacity across India, especially in hilly and remote areas.
Small Hydro Power projects have a capacity range of 1–25 MW and promote decentralised renewable energy generation.
Higher financial assistance is given to North Eastern and border states to encourage balanced regional development.
