- The Union Cabinet approved the Small Hydro Power (SHP) Development Scheme with an outlay of ₹2,584.60 crore for FY 2026–27 to 2030–31.
- The scheme aims to develop about 1,500 MW of small hydro capacity across India, especially in hilly and remote areas.
- Small Hydro Power projects have a capacity range of 1–25 MW and promote decentralised renewable energy generation.
- Higher financial assistance is given to North Eastern and border states to encourage balanced regional development.
