- Chief Minister announced that September 6 would be celebrated every year as the day for police personnel.
- It aims to honour their services to people and their contribution in maintaining law and order.
- The Greater Chennai Police would get three new units - Organised Crime Cell, Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit and Social Media investigation Unit.
- A special wing to monitor the activity in the ‘Dark Web’ would come up at the police headquarters in 3 years.
- CM announced allocation of 80 pink patrol vehicles for city Commissionerates, except Chennai as an additional force to ensure safety of women.
- A new scheme for assured career progression was announced.
- In the new upgradation programme, a Grade-II police constable would also be promoted to Grade-1 in 10 years and then to the rank of head constable in 3 years instead of the existing 5 years.
- After putting in 10 years as head constable, he/she would be promoted as Special Sub-Inspector.
- ‘Magizhchi’, a police well-being programme covering police personnel and their family members, would be extended to the West Zone.
