  • Under this Act, the entire Tamilnadu state has been declared as the Corona Prone Zone.
  • Places such as government and private buildings and hospitals, apartments, and firms should have sufficient numbers of taps and wash basins, and provide liquid hand wash or soaps for visitors. 
  • Visitors should be allowed to enter and leave the premises only after washing their hands.
  • In case of any information on COVID-19 cases, laboratories, hospitals and doctors should inform the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine within 24 hours in writing.
  • Government and private hospitals should maintain their premises by taking up frequent disinfection measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
  • The Tamilnadu State government has declared COVID-19 a notified disease under the Tamil Nadu Public Health Act, 1939.
  • The regulations were prescribed under the Epidemics Diseases Act, 1897.
  • Those who fail to adhere to the instructions would face action under the provisions of the above said two Acts. 
  • In addition, the violators would face six months’ imprisonment or fine or both under section 188 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
  • The following Laws are in favour of taking preventive measures during epidemic and pandemic crisis.
    • Sections 260 and 270 (Negligent or malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) of IPC
    • Tamil Nadu Public Health Act, 1939, 
    • Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 
    • Disaster Management Act, 2005.
