  • India has begun preparations for the All-India Tiger Estimation (AITE) 2026, the world’s largest wildlife survey.
  • The last estimation in 2022 recorded 3,682 tigers, forming about 75% of the global wild tiger population.
  • Karnataka ranked second among Indian states with 563 tigers recorded in 2022.
  • The survey covers over 400,000 square kilometres of forest across more than 20 states in three phases.
