Tirupattur MLA Election Case

The Madras High Court rejected an election petition challenging Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) MLA R. Seenivasa Sethupathy’s one-vote victory in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election from Tirupattur constituency in Sivaganga district.
Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan rejected the petition filed by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate and former Minister K.R. Periakaruppan.
The petition alleged that a postal ballot meant for Tirupattur constituency No. 185 in Sivaganga district was wrongly sent to constituency No. 50 in Tirupattur district.
The court noted that the constituency number, along with details in Form 13C, is used to identify and transport postal ballots.
Postal ballots are first deposited at facilitation centres under Rule 18A of the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961 before being transported by election officials.
The court found no supporting material proving that a postal ballot was wrongly received or that any such irregularity materially affected the election result.
