- The Tamil Nadu Government has renamed the Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme as the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme.
- The scheme was launched in September 2022 for students of Classes I to V in government and government-aided schools.
- It has been expanded to cover Classes VI to VIII in government and government-aided schools.
- The renaming order was issued by the Department of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment on July 15, 2026, marking the birth anniversary of K. Kamaraj.
- The expanded scheme will be implemented from September 17, 2026, the birth anniversary of Periyar Erode Venkata Ramasamy (E.V. Ramasamy).
- The scheme will benefit about 34.48 lakh students across Tamil Nadu.
