- The U.S. Supreme Court has struck down former President Donald Trump’s earlier tariffs, after which a new 10% global import duty was announced.
- The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that the earlier tariffs exceeded presidential authority.
- A temporary 10% ad valorem import duty was imposed for 150 days from 24 February 2026.
- The duty was imposed under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974.
- After this order, India’s tariff rate was reduced from 18% to 10% under the Interim Trade Agreement framework.
- Some goods, such as critical minerals, energy products and pharmaceuticals, were exempted from the temporary duty.
