- The day was first observed in 2020 by the WHO.
- NTDs are a group of preventable and treatable infectious diseases affecting poor and vulnerable populations.
- About 1.4 billion people required NTD interventions in 2024, a 36% decline since 2010.
- As of 2026, 58 countries have eliminated at least one NTD, and the WHO targets 100 countries by 2030.
- The theme of 2026 is “Unite. Act. Eliminate”.
