- Sahitya Academi Award winner, writer melanmai ponnusamy passed away due to ill-health in chennai.
- He was born in Melanmarainadu in Virudhunagar district. joined himself in Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI-M), participated in many protests and went to prison.
- He has written 35 books including 6 Novellas, 22 short stories 6 novels induding ‘Uyirnilam’ and an essay collection. He was awarded 2007-Sahitya Academi Award for his short story collection titled ‘Minsarapoo’.
- He Functioned as the president of the TamilNadu Progressive writers Association.
- Melanmai Ponnusamy has also won Ilakkiya Chinthani award, Adithanar Award and Tamil Nadu State Government’s award.
