Scientists from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) documented two new spider species — Simonia lawbah and Hamataliwa papikonda from Meghalaya and Andhra Pradesh.
Simonia lawbah is a new cave-dwelling ray spider found in Krem Lawbah Cave, Meghalaya, belonging to the family Theridiosomatidae.
It is the first recorded species of the genus Simonia in India.
Hamataliwa papikonda is a new lynx spider discovered in the Papikonda National Park, Andhra Pradesh, belonging to the family Oxyopidae.
It is the first documented occurrence of the genus Hamataliwa in Andhra Pradesh.
